“Tell Me The Story”
by Mark Trethewey
Story Behind the Song

For many years Mark Trethewey has had several songs that powerfully portray the life of Christ. Starting with the visit of the Wise Men after His birth in Bethlehem to his glorious 2nd coming, it is a story that the world needs to hear!
Each song has already had an impact when performed alone, but by combining them into a chronology of the life of Christ, listeners will be strongly moved by the gospel story.
The audience for this album is not only those who don’t know Christ—it’s also for those who do! Many church members have grown weary or complacent about the gospel and God’s love for them. To be reminded of the price He paid—out of His great love—can reignite an intimate fellowship with Him.
Songs include: John 3:16 (Instrumental), The Wisemen, Man From Galilee, Jesus Knee, He’s Forgiven Me, Peace, Gethsemane, The Answer Is Me, John 3:16, The Victor, The Crown.

Story Behind the Song

Far in the east in our own native land rulers and kings in the deserty sand
Wise men of intellect knowledge and fame and great philosophical reign

With long fascination we studied as one of how Israel’s promised Messiah would come
And then looking out through the darkness of night we saw a mysterious light

We knew as we pondered the sign from afar we mounted our camels and followed the star
Down through the valleys the hills and the plains to Israel’s foreign domain to Israel’s foreign domain

Honor and praise to the glorious One Israel’s promised Messiah has come
Lord above lords the Commander and King gifts from the Magi we bring to
    worship Messiah the King

Up to Jerusalem asking the news “Where is this Baby born King of the Jews?”
But no celebration just wondering stares and inquiring ears

In light of the promise we can’t understand how this confident ignorance sleeps in the land
Millenniums waited this Baby to come the giving of God’s only Son the giving of God’s only Son

Refrain

Again in the distance the hovering star leading us on to the Child afar

In lowly surroundings and sheltered within a humble young carpenter welcomes us in
While a mother was humming a soft lullaby to the Baby asleep in her arms

An awesome mysterious wonderful thing we fell to our knees and we worshipped the King
Offering our gold, our incense and myrrh the promised Messiah is here at last the Messiah is here

Refrain

The Man from Galilee

Story Behind the Song

A mighty Teacher in the land He’s meek and gentle as a lamb
He’s calling people by the sea He’s the Man from Galilee
Greater love was never heard than when He speaks His living word
He came to set His people free He’s the Man from Galilee

See Him with the fish and bread five thousand men are fed
See him calm the raging sea and when He speaks the demons flee
Miracles thoughout the land are flowing through His healing hand
He came to set His people free He’s the Man from Galilee

A weeping widow hangs her head her only son lies dead
The Galilean says arise and the young man opens up his eyes
The resurection and the life healer of all sin and strife
He came to set His people free the Man from Galilee

He says that He’s the Holy One the true Messiah, God’s own Son
For our sins He must be slain but on the third day He’ll rise again
Son of God and Son of man heall us with your mighty hand
He came to set His people free He’s the man from Galilee

Jesus’ Knee

Story Behind the Song

Little children gathered round
Listening still without a sound
I’m as happy as can be
Sitting here on Jesus’ knee

Stories told so meek and mild
Warm the hearts of every child
Happy faces I can see
Sitting here on Jesus’ knee

Greatest wonders ever heard
I reach up and feel His beard
He looks down and smiles at me
Sitting here on Jesus knee

Stay and rest a little while
Feel the comfort of His smile
I’m secure as I can be
Sitting here on Jesus knee

He’s Forgiven Me

Story Behind the Song

In the doorway peering out across an open room
Through the shadows flowing down a woman came wandering in a woman who was known for her professional sin

She came over walking towards the One who freed her soul
To anoint Him with her gift offered in the fragrance of bloom an alabaster box full of spikenard perfume

She was crying and wiping up the teardrops with her hair
That came falling on His feet that one day would be pierced through and through but in this special moment her joy was all  she knew

He’s forgiven me He took away my sin and made me free
He looked within my soul and saw what He really wanted to see and I’ll never be the same cause He’s forgiven me

In Gethsemane the Son of God lies prostrate on the ground
Crushed beneath a load of sin pressing down from all of the world sin long committed by you and by me

And by the lady who didn’t hold a flicker of a chance
And He just couldn’t turn away abandoning the helpless in need He rose and drank the bitter cup so we could go free and

Refrain

Sunday morning a weeping woman finds an empty tomb
And to the One Who’s standing there she whispers and inquiring word ‘Please can you tell me where you’ve taken my Lord?’

“Mary” The melody of Jesus fills her ears
Resurrected and alive in flesh and blood the Savior of man Creator and Redeemer the great I am has

Forgiven me He took away my sin and made me free He looked within my soul and saw what He really wanted to see
And I’ll never be the same cause Jesus has
Forgiven me He took away my sin and made me free He looked within my soul and saw what He really wanted to see
And I’ll never be the same cause He’s forgiven me

Story Behind the Song

Peace I leave with you My peace I give to you
Not as the world gives do I give to you
Peace I leave with you My peace I give to you
Let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid
If you abide in Me and My words abide in you
You will ask what you desire and it shall be done for you
Refrain
This is My commandment that you love one another
That you love one another as I have loved you

Gethsemane

Story Behind the Song

He entered in the garden His disciples at His side The magnitude of that dark hour began to fill His mind
He said to His disciples I want Peter, James and John The rest of you can stay right here as we go farther on
He said My Soul is sorrowful stay here and watch with Me He went a littler farther and fell down on His knees
He felt the sins of all mankind engulf His weekend frame He feared He’d loose His Father’s love and never be the same

Gethsemane Gethsemane where Jesus prayed alone Gethsemane Gethsemane
where God’s great love was shown
Gethsemane Gethsemane twas there He took our place Gethsemane
for you and  me and all the human race

On that dark night He bore alone the awful weight of sin His own disciples did not stay awake to comfort Him
His sweat came forth as drops of blood in painful agony He felt sins awful separation for eternity

He groaned aloud in agony His heart was filled with dread His human nature trembled there and this is what He said
My Father if it’s possible let this cup pass from Me Yet not My will but Thine be done, I’ll drink it all for Thee

Refrain

The devil whispered in His ear it isn’t worth the price Your own disciples won’t appreciate You sacrifice
But Jesus rose up from that place contentment filled His soul He would accept the awful fate to cleanse and make us whole

He woke up His disciples and encouraged them to pray A darker hour awaited them when they would run away
He saw the torch led mob that Judas led out to that place Then Judas betrayal kiss was placed upon His face

Refrain

Gethsemane for you and me and all the human race

Story Behind the Song

And there He was the Lamb from above perfect in innocence, mercy and love
Heavenly silence beheld from on high the King above all kings condemned to die

Why did He come Why did He stay Why did He let Himself be treated that way

He long endured their abuses and scorns they laughed at His royalty they crowned Him in thorns
In shouts and curses they spit at His name He took it all in silence in suffering and shame

Why did He come Why did He stay Why did He let Himself be treated that way
Why was the Son of God humbled so low In a world of darkness, sin and woe

On top of the hill and lain on the ground they stretched out His hands and nailed Him down
In a crucifying frenzy they lifted Him high and left Him to hang there to bleed and die

O why did He come Why did He stay Why did He let Himself be treated that way
Why did He give Himself to die on the tree How do I feel when the answer is me

Story Behind the Song

Why are you sad? Why are you cry-ing Why do I see that sorrow in your eyes?
He isn’t dead for He has risen Go tell the world Jesus is alive

The mighty King has triumphed over evil The serpent’s head is smashed beneath His feet
The gates of hell are now forever broken And saten’s nell is sounded in defeat

The King ascending to His highest heaven Jesus our God the Victor over sin
Lift up your heads O gates of hea-vens glory Lift up your heads the King is com-ing in

Who is this King of glory? The Lord might-y in battle
Who is this King of glor-y The Lord of Hosts

King of Kings and Lord of Lords Je-sus reigns for-ev-er more
King of Kings and Lord of Lords Je-sus reigns for- ev-er more

The Crown

Story Behind the Song

You looked with longing sympathy on the hopeless and the lost
And You chose to set us free considering the cost
You humbled Your divinity, flesh and blood you came to be
You laid it on the line for me so I could wear the crown

Any good I’ve ever done is far short of your plan
My only hope depends on You and Lord You see what I am
Even so You cared for me and laid Your life down on that tree
You bore the curse of calvary so I could wear the crown

Robed in sovereign deity adorned as God and King
Flanked by heavens mighty host to You their praises sing
Coming in Your majesty, Your righteousness is our purity
And with Your own right hand You’ll place on me that glorious victory crow

The crown of life You won for me soon I can wear the crown
O I can wear the crown
